DFLabs at GISEC 2019: Smashing Incident Response Times with AI

Our CEO and Founder Dario Forte was recently interviewed by Michael Champion, the Director for Exhibitions at Dubai’s World Trade Center, ahead of one of the largest cybersecurity exhibitions in the Middle East - Gulf Information Security Expo & Conference, locally known as GISEC.

Next week from 1-3 April the seventh edition of GISEC will be taking place, which has continued to grow year on year to be one of the world’s largest cybersecurity events, and easily outstrips other events in the region in terms of footfall, seniority of speakers and variety of exhibitors. With over 7000 cyber specific visitors, it is colocated with IoTX and Future Blockchain Summit which collectively delivers over 12,000 visitors, including 270 exhibiting technology vendors, 300+ keynotes and 200+ speakers.

Tackling global cybersecurity issues, GISEC attracts a captive audience of decision makers from over 200 government departments and leading enterprises in the Middle East, and DFLabs and its team is excited to be participating in this prestigious event with its local partner in the region RAS Infotech.

The Adoption of Artificial Intelligence Technologies in the Middle East

During the interview, Michael expressed how business professionals in the Middle East were very excited to hear from companies that were making the best use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), especially in the cybersecurity sector. According to research by consultancy PwC, AI will contribute to approximately $320 billion to the Middle East’s economy by 2030, which is equivalent to 11% of the region’s GDP.

Last year, the UAE revealed an artificial intelligence strategy that largely aims to speed up the government’s productivity and improve the performance of all official departments, marking a new level of innovation built on Smart Government. The strategy is the first of its kind in the region and the world, and will see investment in the latest AI technologies and tools to enhance government performance and efficiency. The country also appointed a minister for artificial intelligence to spearhead the development. Within the UAE, Dubai has been at the forefront of automating processes with some highly advanced innovations and it is therefore the perfect location to host the annual GISEC event..

The Impact of AI in Incident Response

Dario expressed his thoughts on AI and the impact on the cybersecurity industry, in particular in incident response.

“Artificial Intelligence is a game changer for security, and it has gained a lot of momentum in recent years. Vendors and organizations are building AI into their products and security practices, and DFLabs is no exception. We are focused on using AI and machine learning to increase automation and accelerate the entire security incident response lifecycle with greater accuracy and efficiency. We have patented several key processes already, and more are in development.”

Dario went on to further discuss DFLabs’ full Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (SOAR) platform with Michael, explaining how it works step by step, how it differs from other solutions in the market and explained further about how its machine learning capabilities powered by AI enhances incident response, resulting in the significant reduction of incident dwell time.

“DFLabs has developed and uses intelligence-driven and machine learning-based Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (SOAR) technology within its platform. We have patented two key SOAR technologies. One is R3 Rapid Response Runbooks that automate and perform the early stage processes involved in assessing and investigating security incidents, until a human security analyst is required to intervene. The other is our Automated Responder Knowledge (ARK) module, which applies machine learning to historical responses taken by an organization’s security analysts and recommends appropriate actions when similar threats and incidents occur.”

DFLabs is continually expanding in terms of direct employees, partners and customers, and the Middle East is no exception. Many CISOs in the MEA region are realizing the importance of automation and how the adoption of SOAR technology can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their overall security programs.

“With R&D based in Italy, we can provide direct support to the MEA countries basically in the same time zone, without waiting for Silicon Valley to wake up in the morning when the MEA is going to sleep. This is not practical as it makes local clients lose time. We culturally find ourselves closer to the MEA clients, which is an important factor for both parties to be successful.”

With this being said, find out how our holistic SOAR platform integrates into many different areas not just security operations, and how it can adapt to nearly any use case, data source and scenario, including but not limited to alerts from networks and endpoints, bank/ecommerce fraud transactions, physical security, IoT, threat intelligence sources and more.

You can read the full interview here and arrange to see a demo of DFLabs’ SOAR solution, IncMan SOAR, either directly at GISEC at stand #A10 or at a time that is more convenient for you.

If you are attending GISEC don’t miss our VP of Engineering, Andrea Fumagalli taking to the Main Stage on April 3rd at 11.40am GST to discuss “The Truth about SOC Automation: Use Cases and Success Stories” where you can learn how our AI-powered SOAR solution can transform your security operations.
